The Network Together Sustainable Nieuwegein arranged a harvest feast in the Nature Quarter in park Oudegein. Some 80 people, old and young, came to enjoy fruits and vegetables on offer, to listen to local music and to just be outdoors. There were apples, pears, grapes, carrots, cucumbers, celery, all grown in Nieuwegeinse soil, as well as jam, honey and Gina’s apple pie. A fire was made by scouts from the neighbouring city of IJsselstein and above hung a large cauldron with a tasty soup made from freshly harvested vegetables from the garden of the Natural quarter.
Visitors were given a tour of the garden and children could pull a carrot out of the ground and pick raspberries. Everyone got a strawberry plant to take home.
Food, drinks and music made for a good atmosphere. The beautiful green surroundings of the Nature Quarter and the sunny weather provided the rest.
