The boy soccer team of the Vreeswijkse soccer club were presented with Fair trade sweaters. These sweaters are worn just before and after each game so as to encourage the further use of Fair trade products among the other club members and the visitors, and to increase the visibility of Fair trade in Nieuwegein especially among sports youth. To measure the result, two surveys – a year apart – will be conducted.
Results of the first survey showed that some 70% of the young people is positive to Fair trade and can explain what Fair trade is. Little to none of the young people know where to find fair trade products in the supermarket or have an eye for sustainability labels when purchasing food or snacks. Also, there is little interest in knowing whether their own clothing is manufactured under good working conditions.
